Stibbe acted as counsel to Iret Develoment in its tendering procedure, development, and negotiations of the more than EUR 100 million public–private partnership (PPP) project, which is the new police headquarters building in Antwerp (Post X site) and is based on a DBFM contract.

The new HQ building (10 floors and more than 6,000 sq.m.) is Belgium’s major development project this year and will host the Antwerp local police as from 2020. The contract closed on 14 November 2017 in presence of Antwerp mayor Bart De Wever.

Iret Development was assisted by Stibbe’s multidisciplinary Infrastructure Projects team led by real estate and construction law partner Rony Vermeersch, of which partners Jan Bouckaert (Environment and Planning), Wouter Ghijsels (Project Finance), Wim Panis (Tax), and Nathanaelle Kiekens (Public Law) were also members.
