With effect from 1 January, Stibbe Amsterdam appoints lawyers Branda Katan and Reinout de Boer as partner. Branda Katan specialises in contractual disputes, fraud and class actions. Branda Katan and Reinout de Boer new partners at Stibbe Amsterdam
Due to increasing internationalisation and economic complexity, it is important for companies to overcome risks early and resolve disputes quickly and effectively. As a member of Stibbe's litigation practice group, Branda Katan (1979) advises organisations on how to handle contractual disputes, fraud and class actions. Branda's broad practice covers domestic and international matters, with an emphasis on dealing with disputes at the interface between contractual law and corporate law. Her expertise in this area is underlined by the fact she recently received a PhD with honours for her dissertation on the attribution of knowledge to legal entities.
As a result of internationalisation of business operations and a multitude of new European and international rules, organisations are increasingly facing complex fiscal matters. Reinout de Boer (1976) reinforces Stibbe's tax practice as a new partner. He advises clients on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions and corporate reorganisations. He also heads Stibbe’s tax controversy practice, which includes tax dispute settlement and tax litigation. Furthermore, Reinout is able to draw on his experience as a former tax policy advisor at the Ministry of Finance.
Derk Lemstra, Managing partner of Stibbe Amsterdam: "Branda and Reinout consistently deliver high-quality legal advice in contractual disputes and complex tax issues. As specialists in their practice areas, they continue to help companies with their strategic issues in an economic landscape that is constantly changing. As far as I am concerned, their appointment further reinforces the quality of legal services offered by Stibbe and emphasises our focus on meeting the needs of our clients.”
Ian Arnouts appointed as counsel
With the appointment of Ian Arnouts (1984) as counsel within the Public Law practice group, Stibbe meets the increasing demand of clients to be assisted in large projects by lawyers with excellent legal project management skills. Ian has worked at Stibbe for 10 years, specialising in public procurement, PPP, and public contracts. He has extensive experience in project management and conducting contract negotiations. Ian assists clients in administrative law matters in general and in various types of proceedings relating to the award and execution of public contracts.
Jan Peeters, Managing Partner of Stibbe Brussels: "Ian's appointment recognises not only his excellent legal skills and the expertise he has built up together with clients but also his important contribution to the reputation of our firm. Ian’s promotion to counsel is an important step in strengthening our public law practice and maintaining its position as leading practice in Belgium."
