Following our successful TMT seminar series in 2024, our Brussels TMT team is happy to announce five new seminars taking place in 2025. These seminars will delve into cutting-edge topics within the area of technology law, offering valuable and practical insights for your organisation. To this end, we will present examples and case studies for legal and non-legal professionals. Please find an outline of the seminars below.

Seminar one: Private investigation act - Unpacking its scope and key requirements

29/09 | 09:00 – 11:00 | Cyril Fischer (TMT), Anissa Amallah (Employment) & Charlotte Conings (Criminal Law and Enforcement)

The new Belgian Private Investigation Act (“Wet tot regeling van de private opsporing” ; “Loi réglementant la recherche privée”), effective since December 2024, significantly overhauls the legal framework governing private investigations.

This seminar offers a comprehensive overview of the act's expanded scope, encompassing both external investigators and internal corporate services. Key obligations will be examined, including the necessity for a documented legitimate interest, mandatory internal policies, and procedural safeguards such as interviewee rights and data protection measures. Next to this general overview, we will provide hands-on advice on the interplay between this new act and three specific sectors: labour law, data and privacy law and criminal law.

Seminar two: The impact of Book 7 and the Data Act on IT contracts

23/10 | 09:00 – 11:00 | Carolien Michielsen (TMT) & Frederik Van den Abeele (Real Estate)

Our second seminar will explore key developments in the draft bill introducing Book 7 (Special Contracts) into the Civil Code. We will begin with a general overview of the proposed changes under Book 7, including an analysis of the temporal application of the new provisions.

The second part of the seminar will focus on the specific impact of the draft bill on IT contracts (such as the purchase of software licenses, the integration of (customised) software packages, and cloud or data centre services).

Finally, we will also examine the implications of the EU Data Act – which will be applicable as of 12 September 2025 – for IT contracts.

Seminar three: Navigating digital finance legislation

18/11 | 09:00 – 11:00 | Jan Joos (TMT) & Sophie Brenard (Corporate)

Our third seminar will cover key regulatory developments regarding European digital finance legislation, including the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), and the upcoming PSD3.

We will look into the interplay between the different existing and upcoming legal instruments. The seminar offers hands-on practical guidance on compliance and strategic adaptation in the digital finance era for financial professionals and legal counsel.

Seminar four: Digital law update for consumer-facing companies

16/12 | 09:00 – 11:00 | Thibau Duquin (TMT), & Nathalie De Weerdt (Unfair Competition and Consumer Protection)

Join our fourth seminar—a must-attend for any business engaging with consumers. We’ll explore the latest legal developments in areas such as direct marketing, AI-driven customer interactions (including chatbots), algorithmic transparency, loyalty programmes, online tracking, influencer marketing, and price reduction announcements.

Our goal is to equip you with clear, practical steps to ensure your organisation stays compliant and ready to tackle the evolving digital landscape.

Seminar five: Wildcard - your choice!

20/01 | 17:00 – 19:00 | TMT team

During our fifth and final seminar, we will address the topic voted by attendees during the first four seminars. Seize the opportunity to bring interests or concerns to our attention, allowing us to tailor an interactive session for the chosen subject. We will wrap up our series with drinks & bites, offering the possibility to connect with fellow attendees and our TMT team.
