At the Chambers Europe Awards 2018 in Madrid on Friday 20 April, Benelux law firm Stibbe was selected as Law Firm of the Year in both Belgium and the Netherlands.

Tax Alert: Dutch implementation of the EU Directive on Tax Dispute Resolution

Short Reads - On 9 July 2019, the Senate approved the bill on tax arbitration which implements the EU Directive on tax dispute resolution mechanisms in the European Union ("EU Directive on Tax Dispute Resolution") into Dutch national legislation. The bill will be published in the Dutch Gazette as soon as possible, after which the law will take effect as from the following day.

Short Reads - Though the European data protection authorities have taken their time in enforcing the GDPR, two announcements by the ICO in the UK regarding proposed fines for British Airways and Marriott demonstrate that large fines are about to start landing regularly. Both of the substantial fines are to be handed out as a result of shortcomings in handling data breaches caused by cyber-attacks.

Short Reads - Een hard gelag voor de gemeenteraad van Rotterdam en de ontwikkelaar: bij uitspraak van 9 juli 2019, ECLI:NL:RVS:2019:2298, verklaart de Afdeling bestuursrechtspraak van de Raad van State het beroep tegen het bestemmingsplan "De Nieuwe Wielewaal" zonder zitting kennelijk gegrond wegens het ontbreken van een m.e.r.-beoordelingsbesluit en vanwege een gebrekkige vormvrije m.e.r.-beoordeling. De sloop van 545 woningen en de nieuwbouw van 675 woningen lopen hierdoor grote vertraging op, omdat het bestemmingsplan eerst weer in ontwerp ter inzage moet worden gelegd.
