Stibbe advises Uplace

We assisted project developer Uplace throughout the various stages of the planning and permit process relating to a 190,000m² of leisure, shopping, working, and housing project in Brussels.

This EUR 600 million, multi-faceted project is one of the biggest all-in-one redevelopment projects ever planned in the Flemish Region. A brownfield covenant was concluded with the Flemish Government and local authorities to remediate the contaminated parcel of land before the start of the project. We assisted Uplace with all planning, permits and related issues, and the adoption of all planning and permit consents required. Finally, we also assisted Uplace with the litigation related thereto. Despite the project’s having been issued all three required permits, several competitors sought the Council of State to annul those permits.
