Stibbe represents Vereniging Gelijkberechtiging Grondbezitters in a state aid case before the Court of Justice

On Thursday 3 September, the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg rejected the appeal of Dutch nature organisations against a ruling of the General Court that annuls a decision of the European Commission.

This decision declared state aid in the estimated amount of more than a billion euro to Dutch nature organisations compatible with the internal market. This judgment of the European Court of Justice marks milestone in a long lasting legal dispute that started in 2008 when the private organisations and the Vereniging Gelijkberechtiging Grondbezitters (VGG) submitted a complaint to the European Commission about illegal state aid to the Dutch nature organisations. Stibbe represented the VGG and the private organisations before the General Court and the European Court of Justice.
