20 June 2018: Erik Valgaeren speaks during a seminar on Blockchain technology, organised by KU Leuven
Blockchain technology is used for recording indelible transactions. Although it is still in its early stages and surely undergoing constant development, many already agree that this technology can and will have an important impact on many sectors. Many traditional processes (the list of which can be almost endless) in the government, the legal profession, judicial departments, and the notarial profession lend themselves to blockchain applications. Some industries have already used blockchain as means to create smoother processes with multiple parties and for the exchange of documents. And more industries will follow indeed. How do these sectors perceive the blockchain evolution (or rather: revolution)? This seminar allows various industrial players to answer this question. Previously, important technical and legal bases of this technology are explained and illustrated using the example par excellence: bitcoin.
