Karlijn van den Heuvel
Karlijn specialises in information law and intellectual property law, focusing mostly on privacy and data protection law. Karlijn has considerable experience in advising clients on complex matters regarding privacy and data protection law, including compliance issues, contract drafting, and related disputes.

Karlijn also has experience in advisory and contracting work in the area of soft IP law (copyright, trademark law, advertising law, betting and gaming, consumer law) as well as IT contracting and related disputes. Her experience includes transactional work in the fields of IT, IP and data protection.
She advises clients, both Dutch and international, on wide-ranging information technology and intellectual property law matters. She also assists clients with transactions and contracting matters, including disputes, in her areas of expertise.
Karlijn obtained a Master of Laws (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam, where she completed a two-year research master programme, specialising in information law and intellectual property law. Karlijn previously studied abroad, at Cambridge University (Gonville and Caius College, United Kingdom) and Cardozo School of Law (New York, US).
Karlijn’s legal scholarship on data protection and intellectual property has been published in Dutch and international law journals. Her master’s thesis has been awarded twice. She recently co-authored a chapter in a handbook on data protection law.
Karlijn is a member of the Dutch Association for Information Technology & Law (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Informatietechnologie en Recht) and the Association for Young Privacy Lawyers in the Netherlands (Jonge Privacyrecht Advocaten Nederland).
