Hosting MAR-symposium and publication Market Abuse Handbook

To coincide with the publication of the third edition of the Market Abuse Handbook, Stibbe's Amsterdam office hosted a symposium for all partners of the Research Center for Entrepreneurship and Law (OO&R), organised by the OO&R, on Wednesday 11 April 2018.

Steven Hijink, acting as moderator at the symposium, and Daan Doorenbos were both speakers at the event on behalf of Stibbe. Other prominent speakers included Tim Steven from Allen & Overy, Paul-Willem van Gerwen, head of Supervision of Capital Markets at the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and Bas de Jong, Professor in Financial Markets for VEB at the Radboud University.

At the end of the afternoon, Steven Hijink presented Amsterdam managing partner Derk Lemstra with the first copy of the special Stibbe edition of the Market Abuse Handbook, which was also given to all attendees.

Short Reads - On 12 September 2018, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) confirmed that in prospectus liability cases, a court can only assume international jurisdiction on the basis that the alleged damage consists of purely financial loss which occurred directly in an investor's bank account held with a bank established within its jurisdiction if additional specific circumstances also contribute to that court assuming jurisdiction.

Articles - A Royal Decree was published in the Belgian Official Gazette on 5 October 2018 containing, among other things, amendments to the Takeover Decree (Royal Decree of 27 April 2007 on takeover bids) and the Squeeze-out Decree (Royal Decree of 27 April 2007 on squeeze-out bids), with a view to updating the said texts.
