Paul has been a partner at Stibbe since 1969. He is widely recognized as one of the leading corporate lawyers in the Netherlands and is mentioned as one of the most influential persons in the Dutch corporate community. Paul now devotes most of his time to a number of board memberships and committees, although he continues to participate in Stibbe’s corporate transaction and litigation practice. He regularly acts as arbitrator.

Paul is chairman of the boards of:

  • AON Group Nederland B.V.
  • ASM International N.V.
  • Wavin N.V.

Paul is a former member of the Board of the Netherlands Arbitration Institute and of the Commission on Corporate Law of the Department of Justice. He is also a former board member of Euronext, Ballast Nedam, Corporate Express and Robeco Group. Paul served on the Van der Grinten Commission (on hostile take-overs and protective devices), the SER Committee advising on the change of the SER Merger Code and the SER Committee advising on the future of the structure regime for big corporations. He is a former professor of corporate law at the Free University of Amsterdam.

Paul has published regularly in the fields of corporate law and corporate governance.
