The natural energy resources of Luxembourg are scarce, a fact which obliges the country to import a significant part of its energy needs.

Considering the issue of energy security, the new Government that came into power at the end of 2013 stressed the need to reinforce its connections with its neighbouring countries and to European networks. In addition to the programme from this new Government, a large public consultation was launched by the Government of Luxembourg to develop a new energy strategy.
